Cross Country Skiing/ Snowshoeing

There are quite a few Aspen Mountain activities that you should consider. With 60 mi of free Nordic and snowshoe trails between Aspen, Snowmass and Basalt, there are tons to explore and activities to keep you busy! Make your way over to Aspen Cross Country Centre or the Snowmass Cross Country Centre for rental equipment, lessons and tours. 

Tubing

There is no tubing on Aspen Mountain, however it is available at nearby Snowmass Mountain. Simply purchase a ticket from Aspen Snowmass ticket office or at the top of Elk Camp Gondola before riding up the Gondola.

Fitness Classes

There are plenty of muscle and endurance-building opportunities in Aspen Mountain that take place on flat ground. If your workout regimen requires variety you can check out one of the numerous establishments in town for a low-impact yoga session or an invigorating spin class. Top-rated facilities and workouts include yoga and fitness classes at Jean Robert’s Gym and body sculpting cardio classes at Pure Barre.

Massage and Spa Services

A rigorous day or two on the mountain could put you in the mood to simply relax for a bit, a perfect reason to take advantage of the nearly dozen or so spa services offered in town. Amongst them are services at top-rated establishments such as massage at Heaven on Earth, hair care at Full Circle Aspen and facials at 02 Aspen Studio & Spa. 

Ski Lessons

The Aspen Skiing Company offers professional, world class instruction for skiing and snowboarding. Classes can be scheduled in private or for groups, and it is best if you plan ahead and book your instruction when you make the rest of the arrangements for your trip, especially if you plan to visit during the holiday season. Group lessons can be arranged by gender as well and broken down into age groups.

Ski Hire

You won’t be starved of gear with an abundance of ski hire shops – Aspen Sports, Four Mountain Sports, Incline Ski Shop and Performance Ski – all within a few minutes’ walk from the Silver Queen Gondola. You can also arrange your ski hire through these shops online prior to your arrival and potentially save a bit of money on rental fees.

Annual Events and Festivals

The town is abuzz with activities all winter long but the events and festivals really start kicking into gear after the New Year.

Wintersköl is a laid back family friendly event celebrating the Norse god of snow, and features ice carvings, fireworks, fat-bike races, après ski parties kicking off January 10th to 13th.

This is followed up by the X Games in January 24th to 27th, an event which attracts spectators from around the world to get a glimpse of big air and sweet tricks. Outdoor concerts by big name artists are very much part of this culture, so be prepared to party hard.

The World Cup of Skiing comes to town mid-March, bringing with it the biggest names in the sport of downhill skiing. The party continues with a series of free concerts held in Ruby Park in Aspen and Snowmass Village to close out the season.

Child Care

Vacation means relaxation for everyone, and if you’re a parent that means you too. If you need a day on the slopes or an evening to yourselves there are several private child care services available in the town of Aspen Mountain, the highest-rated of which are Mom’s Day off and Aspen nannies. For kids that require minimal supervision, the nearby Snowmass resort hosts Ullr Nights with activities such as guided snowshoe tours, snow bike tours and ice skating.

Ski Patrol

The Aspen Professional Ski Patrol Association runs Aspen Mountain Ski Patrol. This company is contracted by the Aspen Skiing Company to patrol all four mountains -- Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Aspen Snowmass. Patrol representatives are available in person across the mountain at several ski patrol stations. In the event of an emergency they can be reached at 970-920-0723.

Banking and Internet

There are a variety of banking facilities in downtown Aspen including Alpine Bank, Wells Fargo, Timberline Bank, US Bank, Vectra Bank and Community Banks of Aspen. Just note you won't be able to find Chase Bank here. All have ATM machines, while debit cards and credit cards as accepted at just about every business in town and on the mountain. There is no limit to credit card usage on the mountain or in town, all major credit cards are accepted including Visa, MasterCard and American Express. If you must remain connected at all times, there is WiFi in the Gondola Plaza and in the restaurants on the mountain.

Grocery Shopping

It pays to pack a lunch for long days on the slope and to cook a few meals in your accommodations if you have a room with a kitchen. There are two grocery stores in town to load up on suppliers – City Market on the corner of Cooper and Original Street, and Clarks Market located off N Mill Street. Both are full large full service groceries with good range, but aren’t particularly cheap. You can be better prices but you’ll need to drive out to the City Market in El Jebel or Wal-Mart in Glenwood Springs. If you’re the opposite and don’t feel like going out after a long day of carving, Aspen is serviced by local delivery services such as Resort Delivery, Grocery Girls and Cart Delivery but you’ll have to pay a premium for the service.

Emergencies and Other Medical Services

Aspen Valley Hospital is just outside of town and a 10 minute drive from Silver Queen Gondola. For less serious injuries which can be treated by physical therapy, you can reach out to Aspen Sports Medicine, Antos Physical Therapy or Aspen Valley Hospital Physical Therapy, all within town.
